For the WordPress products, a companion theme replaces the standard dashboard with a purpose-built app for that product and powers the public-facing site (booking engine, listings). The plugin still works without it, but the companion theme is a much better experience. The cloud products are a single unified app and need no theme.
For the WordPress products, active licence holders get updates through the normal WordPress update mechanism, documented in a public changelog. The cloud products update automatically — you're always on the current version.
